EDUC 570

The Reflective Educator

EDUC 570 made me reflect on my journey through education and relate my philosophy to these main areas: "why" we teach, "what" should be included in curriculum, "how" we should conduct ourselves (both teachers & students), and "which/whom" our philosophy aligns with.

  • These classes promoted the use of goal setting in order to achieve both short-term and long-term goals.

PSY 358 - Health Psychology

  • PSY 358 focused on working with a partner and guiding them along their journey towards their long-term goal.

PSY 360 - Peak Performance Psychology

  • PSY 360 focused on personal goal setting and made us outline a plan in and reflect on the steps taken to achieve our long-term goal.

Curriculum Development

EDCT 585 dove into curriculum development and made me critically evaluate a curriculum being used within my current club. I dissected a piece of "build-up" curriculum and argued that the curriculum becomes too predictable and limits players creativity, has restrictions to age and skill level, and finally stifles the coaches creativity and approach to the game.

Educational Technology Praxis

EDUC 552 took a look at technology in education and made me find the purpose of technology within my youth soccer level. I created a website with the Wix platform in order to hold game analysis discussions with players. The paper describes the struggle, success, and implications of the website in more detail.

Teaching & Learning:

Research & Application

  • The Field-Based Research project  centered around our own area of interest.

  • The research question that I based my work around was do athletes believe that weight training, endurance running, and speed/agility training are all important to the sport of soccer?
